It’s a hot topic; whether it is best to comfort your screaming child, potentially coddling them, or to practise some distance, to teach them maturity and confidence. But is there a definitive ‘correct’ way to approach such a situation?

Bill Murphy Jnr writes that there may be scientific reasoning behind the ‘correct’ method. A writer and mother, Melinda Moyer, looked into the topic thoroughly and interviewed psychologists to determine the best way to respond. And what she found is there is, in fact, a ‘correct’ way!

We want to teach our children the best habits possible to make sure they become successful and secure adults. But in this case, ‘tough-love’ may turn out to be more of a detriment to their well being than a good lesson.
