Wish you happy forever

I’ve only enjoyed reading for pleasure in recent years.

When my children were young, I found it hard to sit still and read. There always seemed to be something else that needed to be done.  I remember close friends of ours would come over on the weekends and while all the kids were running around in the back yard having a ball, the conversation would invariably turn to who had read what and how good or bad it was. I did feel quite left out of those conversations. I wonder if that’s the reason that I now enjoy reading, usually at the end of the day and on holidays.

One of the books I have not long finished is ‘Wish you happy forever’ by Jenny Bowen. I really enjoyed it and found it very uplifting. It’s an amazing story about changing, against all odds, the lives of orphaned babies in China. It’s also very easy to read, even after a busy day when concentration isn’t that great!

Here’s a line I loved from the book that I leave with you as a thought for this month. It seems very simple and obvious however in the context of the book it’s the shining light.  It is a quote from the philosopher Mencius, from about seventeen hundred years ago:

“All the children who are held and loved will know how to love others…. Spread these virtues in the world. Nothing more need be done.”

Have you a read a good book recently that you’d like to tell other “Roganites” about? I’d love to hear from you!

Regards

Julie Morrison

thanks Julie, that’s a really perfect quote and it has kind of made my day today.

I will seek out the book, although I, like you feel left out of the “reading thing” as a parent of little kids – good to know it might come back as they get older 🙂
