Problems that originate in childhood…

I’m on about books again this post.

I’m currently reading The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion, after thoroughly enjoying The Rosie Project, Graeme’s first in hopefully a long series.

It’s funny how the odd line sticks in your head.

I have a couple that do from Lonesome Dove, Anna Karenina, and others, and now The Rosie Effect.

The line is:

‘Don, problems that originate in childhood are never solved’ says the head of the psychology department.

I don’t have the expertise to say that that is absolutely so, but I do believe that the Scandinavian countries have got it right. We cannot put too much money or too much effort into the development of our children, particularly the preschool aged group, so these problems can be solved.

We are investing in the future; in healthy human beings who can handle whatever life throws up at them.

We have many obligations in life – the most important is giving every child the opportunity to develop to her or his full potential.

I’m not sure what kind of a father Rosie’s Don will be – I’m reading on to find out.
