Should Australia offer pre-school for 3 year olds?

Early child education is key in ensuring children are ready for school. Many countries at the forefront of education are making 2 years of preschool available to all families, with fantastic results. So is it time Australia is offered 2 year preschool?

Research from the UK has shown 2 years of preschool increases the likelihood that a child will pursue a higher academic pathway later in life. More time in preschool also benefits those who need extra support. Children who are developmentally vulnerable largely benefit from the extra care, engagement and preparation before school begins.

Many European nations introduced an amount of free or highly subsidised preschool programs decades ago. The fantastic results of these programs are worth considering for the future of Australian education, to give our children the best start possible.
